About Result Based Financing (RBF) 

Cordaid has been active in Uganda for over 25 years. In Uganda and in 15 other sub-Saharan African countries Cordaid has experience in system strengthening through the Result Based Financing (RBF) approach. In Uganda we are anticipating implementing an RBF project Agricultural Governance Results Improvement Project (A-GRIP) with focus on land tenure and food security governance in 16 districts across 5 regions (Kigezi, Rwenzori, Busoga, Elgon and Lango) of Uganda. For the project, we are looking for experienced Drivers ,with strong driving skills and experience driving in remote locations in Uganda.  on food systems and economic empowerment and stakeholders and capacity building skills and willingness to learn on technical approaches of RBF. The position is pending donor approval of the project.  

Justification and context 

Cordaid is recruiting Drivers for an anticipated Result Based Financing in Land Tenure and Farming Systems Project, 2023 – 2028. The anticipated project will work in 16 districts and aiming at secured land tenure security and inclusive development of farming systems in 5 regions in Uganda. 

The project has four (inter-related) outcome areas: 

  1. Increased formal and equitable land ownership under customary law, especially for the most vulnerable populations;

  2. Increased sustainable agricultural smallholder farmers production by enhanced take-up of effective, quality and equitable agricultural food production and natural resources management services; 

  3. Strengthened regulation and enabling policies for better agricultural and food security (FS) sector performance to match smallholder farmers’ and communities’ needs; 

  4. General good governance and management at district level in support of improved performance of the contracted departments. 

Purpose of the position 

The Driver will take regular visits throughout the designated location as well as taking Cordaid staff members to project related offices for work projects, in and outside of the designated region. This job requires punctuality, thoughtfulness, and a safety-first mentality. In addition to driving duties, responsibilities will include assisting in duties around the office

Contract Period: One year renewable based on performance.  

Reports To: Regional Lead Verifier.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

  Driving 

  • Ensure timely pickup and drop of project staff and visitors to & from designated locations 

  • Map out driving routes ahead of time to determine the most expedient trip 

  Safety and Security  

  • Adherence to the vehicle/road safety and security guidelines.  

  • Always follow traffic laws, speed limits, and police direction. 

  • Always keep alert and informed of changing road and weather conditions. 

  • Conduct regular vehicle inspections and report any issues 

  Vehicle Maintenance  

  • Ensure general cleanliness of the vehicle  

  • Schedule regular car service & maintenance appointments and report any issues 

  • Book car wash and detailing services to maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of the car 

  • Monitor motor vehicle motor insurance and adhere to the established guidelines.  

  Reporting  

  • Prepare and submit monthly vehicle fuelling, mileage and maintenance reports  

  • Maintenance of vehicle records  

  • Timely reporting of incidents/accidents  

 

 

Requirements

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:   

  • The applicant must hold a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).  

  • A certificate in Defensive driving will be an added advantage.  

  • The applicant must possess a valid driving permit with at least 3 classes; B, CM, DL and DM.  

  • First Aid Diploma  

  • Four years of driving experience in an international organisation environment.  

  • Possess high level of experience driving in remote locations around Uganda.   

 Behavioral Competences:  

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills.  

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.  

  • Excellent planning and organisation skills.  

  • High level of integrity.  

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with odd hours and night shifts.
