Background
Cordaid Uganda secured funding from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN) to implement the Agricultural Governance Results Improvement Project (A-GRIP). The project’s objective is Strengthened, food secure and resilient farming systems through increased accessibility, availability and quality of land tenure security, agriculture and food security services in 16 selected districts of the Kigezi, Rwenzori, Busoga, Elgon, and Lango regions in Uganda.
Purpose of the Role
The Data Collectors will support the Agricultural Governance Results Improvement Project (A-GRIP) by collecting high-quality quantitative and qualitative data from project beneficiaries and key stakeholders using structured tools.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the MEAL team, the Data Collectors will:
- Conduct Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with district, subcounty, and other partner project staff; particularly those working with the Departments of Administration, Production, and Natural resources (ENR).
- Conduct Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with small holder farmers at parish level.
- Administer household survey to small holder farmers
- Ensure accurate, complete, and timely data collection and submission
- Obtain informed consent from all respondents and uphold ethical research standards
- Follow daily fieldwork plans and meet assigned interview targets
- Participate in training and briefing sessions prior to field deployment
- Provide daily updates to supervisors and flag any field challenges promptly
- Completed and submitted digital questionnaires per assigned targets
- Accurate notes/transcripts for KIIs and FGDs (where applicable)
- Daily progress reports to the supervisor
Requirements
- Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Statistics, Economics Development Studies, or related field
- Proven experience in data collection for surveys, assessments, or evaluations
- Experience using digital data collection tools (especially Comcare/ Kobo Toolbox/ODK)
- Strong understanding of field research ethics and data quality standards
- Familiarity in collecting data related to agriculture, land registration, and good governance promoted projects is an added advantage
- Experience working in Busoga region (Kamuli, Buyende, & Namutumba); Elgon region (Mbale, Bududa, Bulambuli, Kapchorwa, & Namisindwa); Lango region (Lira, Alebtong & Apac), Rwenzori (Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Bunyangabu, Kamwenge, & Kyegegwa); Kigezi region (Kabale, Rukiga, Rubanda, Kisoro & Kanungu) is highly desirable.

Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong interviewing and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, Lusoga, Luganda, Rutooro, Rukiga, Langi, Lumasaba/Gisu and Kupsabiny (local language is essential)
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work under tight timelines and meet daily targets
- Good teamwork and professionalism
- Ability to transcribe qualitative data.
- Report writing is paramount.

Selection Criteria
- Relevant experience in similar assignments
